The Story Thus Far

About the Author

As an aspiring, first-time author, I have a background in writing with a BA from the University of Iowa’s English and Creative Writing program, and an MFA from Seton Hill’s Writing Popular Fiction Program. I’m from the Pacific Northwest, love my Golden Retriever immensely, and wish dragons were real outside of the confines of books.

The goal for the series I have planned in the world of Saelardis is that each book will be capable of being a stand alone, but together, the books will have ties from one to the next, as well as an overarching chronology.

Ocean

Blood of the Sea

Veyda’s magic reemerges when she and her sister overthrow the king of mages. Her magic proves to be hungrier than her sister’s ambition, leading to Veyda taking the throne on the continent.

Across the sea, Astrophel lives blissfully unaware that there’s more to life than what happens on the islands, that is until his goddess sends him a message in the form of a burning ship, and dreams of drowning. With this calling, and the support of his friends, he makes the journey across the sea, stumbling upon a whole new world.

Vance joined Astrophel as he made the trip across the ocean, but once on land, the lure of magic and an appetite for power drags him into Veyda’s sphere of influence.

Veyda must make the decision whether to welcome the outsiders, or show them what it means to cross her, while Astrophel struggles with the path his goddess sets out before him as it seems to push him further from his friends, and deeper into the heart – and claws – of this strange land.

Upon the Wings of Ruin

All Alkali wants in life is to bond with a Thralkin. As a Rider, ruled distantly by the governing Mages, she knows order comes from doing your duty. Upon getting a Thralkin, her semblance of a normal life is thrown awry when Lord Protectress Deidamia makes an unscheduled visit and asks who will be riding the next Rex. Generations ago, the last Rex left the lands in ruin. Though the title makes her blood run cold, does she dare take up that mantle?

Jaecar, a knight in the Vigili order, is also hunting down forgotten stories. When his path leads him to Mercury, a nobody with a strange, bladeless hilt and silver hair, he knows the history he has memorized was changed to fit the whims of the Mages. Jaecar makes his way to the capital where he plans on questioning the High Mage, but Deidamia stands in his way.

Unsettled by his interaction with Jaecar, Mercury flees across the continent to what he perceives to be the safety and power of the Riders, unknowingly provoking Alkali, as his tale leaves her shaken.

When Deidamia plays her hand, Alkali must choose. Does she bend to the Mages as expected of her? Or does she listen to those around her and challenge them for her people’s freedom?
